Facilities available at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park
Cliffs of the Neuse State Park also features a swimming lake with a sandy beach, diving platform, picnic grounds, and paddle boats all available within the park.
Camping is available in the park with a 35 site campground, as well as a separate are for group camping. At the time of my visit, the campground was closed. The sign on the gate said it would be closed for upgrades through August 2017.
On our short visit, we hiked two of the trails to get a better feel for the park. The trails we chose were the 350 Yard Trail & the Galax Trail. There is Poison Ivey along the trail, however, it can easily be avoided by simply staying on the trail.
350 Yard Trail
Galax Trail
The Galax Trail and the Bird Trail begin at the end of the 350-yard Trail. The trail starts by following the creek that drains from the 11-acre lake, then ascends the hill to loop back to Still Creek. It is a short 1/2 mile loop trail and begins and ends where the Lake Creek and Still Creek flow together.
There is a little trail maintenance happening on the Galax Trail at this time, however, it does not interfere with the use of the trail.
My review of the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park Trails
Both trails were simple to hike; I did it wearing flip-flops. So if you are looking for an easy stroll in the woods, I would recommend taking the time to stop and stretch your legs. We stopped on the way through just to get a break from driving, and it was well worth it. This State Park is an entirely family friendly place and is suitable for any fitness level.
